Sitting in the audience

So last night I was without a gig, so I decided to go what has become, hands down, my favorite burlesque show in NY, Pinchbottom Burlesque, run by the fabulous
Nasty Canasta and Jonny Porkpie.

It isn't really fair to say that its my favorite, because as a once monthly show, they have the ability to create shows that are completely thematic, which the weeklies just cant do. But they do an awesome job and the entire thing is carefully scripted around the theme (yay theater backgrounds).

My icon photo on here is from the Pinchbottom "My Biggest Fan" show, which was great fun.

So here is one from the "Naked Planet" show on July 1st:

That is me (yes with Bajoran nose bridge) and Queen Nasty Canasta (she's the queen of the naked planet, but of course!)

Oh what the hell--this one is from the previous run of Naked Planet
Me between Queen Nasty and Captain Porkpie (of the SpaceDinghy Pinchbottom)

It was "Pinchbottom's Drinking Problem" last night, and damn was it fun! I haven't had the oportunity to just sit in the audience for a burlesque show for a really long time, so I usually see acts from the side not the front, and it really is a different experience, besides which I saw many acts that I'd only seen once before, and some that were completely new to me, so it was a real treat :)

I unfortunately forgot my camera, so no pictures of the show, but I'm sure some will be online soon, and much better than the ones I would have taken.

I met a new performer, Rubie Fizz, who was also there to watch, not to perform (her bf was in the show last night). She not only also has a ballet background, she is now working in NYCB's costume shop! Now that's a talent I'd love to have. I'm afraid I talked her ear off with my opinions regarding the last ABT season, but oh well ;)

Speaking of ballet, I *think* I'm going to take a class soon, if I can get up the courage. Since drinking for courage works poorly for taking dance classes, I'm trying to convince a friend to go with me, and I *think* I may have succeeded last night, so hopefully, I'll be pulling out my ballet slippers quite soon!

Also speaking of ballet, they just played Swan Lake on the radio! I love ballet music.

Photo by Gary Winter, from 2 saturdays ago at slipper room.

this is me gogoing--I love this photo because as you can see, I am twirling only one pastie--a trick I can always do backstage, but rarely can pull off ON stage.

I made the pasties for my Exotic World act his year. Exotic World
is a burlesque museum run by Dixie Evans, the Marilyn Monroe of burlesque.

Crobar, aka the things we do for money

So tomorrow instead of a burlesque show, I'll be gogoing at Crobar.

I like doing this gig. But its a somewhat qualified "like"

Gogoing is by no means the same as doing burlesque. In a lot of ways it is much harder, because you have so much less control (and you dance for so much longer!). You can't tell the dj what to play--so you can end up dancing to songs you have never heard, or that you hate ("Dont you wish your gf was hot like me" comes to mind), and you have to completely hide the fact that you would rather be picking your navel than dancing to that song. You have to look like you are having fun!

On the other hand, it makes it challenging, and therefore interesting. And I think it definitely helps me to be a better performer overall. It is also my main form of exercise.

The crowd at crobar, well, I'm not sure they get it, and that takes away from the fun somewhat. But at least they usually keep their distance, and the management is good about making sure no one screws with us, so its never scary feeling at least.

The other reason I like the gig is that the people I work with are a fun and fabulous group that I always enjoy being around.

Tonight I have no gig. I'm not sure what to do with all these fridays I have off this month--its very odd not to be working every friday. Not bad, but odd. I shouldve gotten tix to see Romeo and Juliet.

Hi,
My name is Delirium Tremens or Miss Delirium Tremens if you prefer. I am a burlesque performer in New York City.
I have a webpage (linked in my profile) that has my performance schedule.
