Sitting in the audience
So last night I was without a gig, so I decided to go what has become, hands down, my favorite burlesque show in NY, Pinchbottom Burlesque, run by the fabulous
Nasty Canasta and Jonny Porkpie.
It isn't really fair to say that its my favorite, because as a once monthly show, they have the ability to create shows that are completely thematic, which the weeklies just cant do. But they do an awesome job and the entire thing is carefully scripted around the theme (yay theater backgrounds).
My icon photo on here is from the Pinchbottom "My Biggest Fan" show, which was great fun.
So here is one from the "Naked Planet" show on July 1st:

That is me (yes with Bajoran nose bridge) and Queen Nasty Canasta (she's the queen of the naked planet, but of course!)
Oh what the hell--this one is from the previous run of Naked Planet
Me between Queen Nasty and Captain Porkpie (of the SpaceDinghy Pinchbottom)

It was "Pinchbottom's Drinking Problem" last night, and damn was it fun! I haven't had the oportunity to just sit in the audience for a burlesque show for a really long time, so I usually see acts from the side not the front, and it really is a different experience, besides which I saw many acts that I'd only seen once before, and some that were completely new to me, so it was a real treat :)
I unfortunately forgot my camera, so no pictures of the show, but I'm sure some will be online soon, and much better than the ones I would have taken.
I met a new performer, Rubie Fizz, who was also there to watch, not to perform (her bf was in the show last night). She not only also has a ballet background, she is now working in NYCB's costume shop! Now that's a talent I'd love to have. I'm afraid I talked her ear off with my opinions regarding the last ABT season, but oh well ;)
Speaking of ballet, I *think* I'm going to take a class soon, if I can get up the courage. Since drinking for courage works poorly for taking dance classes, I'm trying to convince a friend to go with me, and I *think* I may have succeeded last night, so hopefully, I'll be pulling out my ballet slippers quite soon!
Also speaking of ballet, they just played Swan Lake on the radio! I love ballet music.
